Simon and Alison’s story
We wanted a place in Spain as a holiday home but because of the poor exchange rate we didn’t want to buy at that time. A townhouse in Denia that we had previously rented for holidays became available as a Rent to Buy.
We reviewed this type of contract and it seemed similar to the PCP (personal contract plan) that we had on our car without the deprecation that is built into the final payment on vehicles. We started the contract during September 2017 with a 3-year option term to purchase, our plan is to buy the property when the GBP vs Euro exchange rate increases.
We now have somewhere that we can use whenever we like which will be ours when we realise the buy option when the exchange rate improves.
Sheila and Edwin’s story
We owned a holiday home in Denia Spain that was no longer required because our daughter bought a villa that we could use at our convenience.
We were initially going to sell via an estate agent but knowing how long it could take (unless we dropped the price significantly) we decided that a Rent to Buy could work for us because we didn’t need the capital immediately. A family friend wanted to take the property immediately with a Rent to Buy option, which meant that the property was occupied and was giving us an income which was greater than our mortgage payments.
The contract started in September 2017 and will we complete on the sale of the property within 2 years.
Sabrina and Lucas’s story
We were renting a villa as our permanent home and were advised in January 2018 that we had to leave because the Landlord was selling the property.
We started to look for a new property to rent however we approached Rent To Buy Spain because we were familiar with this approach as it is common in our home country of Belgium. They had a property in Javea that seemed to meet our requirements, we viewed it on the Thursday, agreed contractual arrangements with the Owner on Friday and moved in on the Saturday.
We had a contract that allowed us to buy the property within 12 months with all the rent we paid coming off the purchase price. We bought it outright after only 8 months.
